There is No Way of Knowing

This action was created in 2009 as part of the Open Realization -International Performance Art Festival at the 798 District in Beijing, China. I developed the materials and action for the piece over the course of several weeks traveling through China. My time spent in the Yunnan province with indigenous weavers became a formative element in the creation of this work.

Action: I orbited the large piece of glass for 30 min. As I got closer to the glass I spun the rock faster.   As I traversed the space I came very close to both cars and people with the rock.  I ended the piece by tying the rope and rock around the unscathed glass.   I made the rope out of silk that I collected in the south of China from a small village. I collected the rock from a river in the same area.  The industrial glass was collected in Beijing.
