There is No Way of Knowing :

These images from my travel in Beijing, Luoyang, and throughout the Yunnan province are presented to help support the visual and experiential narrative connected with the artwork.  Much of my travel was focused around trying to find individual artisans who were still hand making textiles with a connection to the whole production from beginning to end.  Some questions that helped frame my experience were:  What is the relationship between the idea of development and the idea of indigenous culture?  How does the romanticization or fetishization of 'indigenous life' distract from a critical and honest engagement with both a present and emerging culture?
