Current Models

Current Models (2020) is an installation artwork that contemplates digital systems. The installation's four iterative artworks are comprised of exposed material arrangements of computers and digital displays of emoticons and brain-machine interfaces. These works look at the precedent of artist Nancy Holt’s 1982 Electrical System— an immersive installation that spatializes architectural infrastructure through flows of steel conduit and light bulbs— as a guide for thinking about the material visibility of systems at work. The inspiration for this project is the developing exhibition of Nancy Holt’s Electrical System to be presented at UMass Dartmouth in 2021, curated by Rebecca K. Uchill. DeLuca’s involvement in this exhibition research, as part of a Fall 2020 independent study, motivated this series of speculative transcriptions of the material past.  (Location: University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, CVPA Main Campus Gallery)
